Salcombe Garden design

IMG_4024.jpeg

Bruce was asked to design a garden for this recently refurbished farmhouse outside Salcombe. The property belongs to a property developer in the city who is looking for a bolt hole by the sea for family holidays. As with most holiday homes it was paramount to provide drought tolerant plants able to both withstand neglect from absence but also in this instance, coastal winds. The south westerlies blow right through this garden and the soil dries out even with a good mulch. Plenty of grasses were added to make the most of the play of wind when the seed heads add a dynamic feature as they sway amongst mediterranean shrubs and pernnials.  A large deck was designed with a wood burning hot tub with a view to die for and an area of wild meadow planted below the deck helps the garden settle in to the view in a natural manner. .
